The best garment you've ever worn is one fitting away

How It Works

Every Shepherd’s garment is made to the customer's exact measurements using hand-picked fabrics from the finest English and Italian mills. The garments are made in a family-owned factory in Europe with an exceptional level of handwork.

It starts with a fitting.

The Shepherd's experience begins with your fitting. When you book an in-person or virtual fitting with us, you're not just getting your measurements taken. You're beginning a relationship with one of our world-class fitters who will work with you to create a perfectly fitting, made-to-measure garment that matches and elevates your style.

What to expect at your fitting.

Your fitting will begin with us getting to know you, understanding your style and needs, and browsing our catalog of over 10,000 fabrics to match you style and desired price point. Next, we'll begin the process of trying on templates and taking all of your measurements to get the perfect fit.

In-person vs virtual fittings.

At an in-person fitting, you'll get to have a drink, see and feel our selection of fabrics, and go through the full fitting process where one of our experts will make over 100 adjustments to create your unique fit. If you're not able to come in to one of our stores, we can send you a virtual fitting kit and schedule a video call to assess your fit, ask questions, and determine all of the adjustments that will need to be made.

After your fitting.

Once you've been fitted and decided on all of the customizations for your garment, our European manufacturer gets to work carefully cutting, trimming, and sewing. Within 4-6 weeks, the garments are delivered to us, and we inspect and prepare them for two-day shipping to you. Suits, jackets, tuxedos, and outerwear ship with our custom wooden hangers and garment sleeves.

Alterations on us.

It's rare that alterations are needed on any of our garments. But if you need anything to be adjusted, we will cover any alterations up to $50 at your local tailor and note them for future orders.

Heritage quality takes time.

It takes four to six weeks from the date of your order to the delivery of your garments, depending on which fabric you’ve selected. Some just take a bit longer to arrive from the mill.

How does custom pricing work?

Custom clothing is perceived as a luxury. But historically, it’s how most clothing was made, and isn’t much more expensive than tailoring an off-the-rack item to properly fit.

Our Essentials make starts at $895, our No. 1 make is $1,295, and our No. 2 is $1,895. Our Signature make—fully canvassed and with a lot of handwork—starts at $2,795 and goes up, depending on the fabric.

How long will it take to receive my order?

It takes four to six weeks from the date of your order to the delivery of your garments, depending on which fabric you’ve selected. Some just take a bit longer to arrive from the mill.

Need it sooner? Orders may be rushed for an additional fee, with some limitations. Just message or call us and we’ll go over the options.

What can you make?

Everything we make is made-to-measure just for you. We offer suits, shirts, outerwear, jackets, and trousers, as well as some accessories.

What does full- and half-canvas mean?

Let’s start with what we mean by “canvas”. Jackets (suit, tuxedo, and sport jackets) are made with an interlining between the fabric on the outside (the one you see) and the lining on the inside of a garment (the shiny material that makes it easy to pull the jacket on).

Canvas is the material used to make that interlining, and it gives a jacket its shape and three-dimensionality. Like every other component used in our garments, our all-natural horse hair canvas is the best available.

Full canvassing is essential for making the finest jackets. In this fabrication the interlining extends through the entirety of the jacket’s front, creating shape and drape and resulting in a garment that molds to the body over time.

In a half-canvas construction the interlining extends halfway down the jacket’s front, from the shoulder to the center of the torso. Half-canvassing is a good option for more casual or lightweight jackets.

Our Essential and No. 1 makes has a half-canvas construction, while our No. 2 and Signature suits, tuxedos, and sports jackets all include a full-canvas build.

Fitting process

How long does a fitting take?

Our full fittings take about 90 minutes. You’ve honored us with your time, and we do the same.

Where can you do a fitting?

We offer fittings in our Kansas City showroom or virtually, in which case the finished garments will be shipped to you. We are often on the road travel to major cities around the country. Follow us on Instagram to see the latest schedule.

Materials

How much can I customize?

We’re able to customize most everything about our garments, from pockets to shoulder construction, threading to button selection. If you have a unique design in mind, we’re happy to discuss elbow patches, throat latches and other details that make your garment one-of-a-kind.

Where are the fabrics from?

We source the best fabrics in the world, from centuries-old mills in England still utilizing manual looms and to Italian mills that offer vicuña (the “most luxurious fabric in tailoring”). Not to name drop, but our selection includes Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Caccioppoli, Harris Tweed, and Holland & Sherry, just to mention a few. The thousands of fabrics we carry have never met a request we couldn’t handle.
