Mill History
Founded in 1876 by Zaffiro Albini, the company began as a small family-run textile workshop in Albino, near Bergamo. Initially focused on local cotton weaving, Albini gradually expanded during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming a key part of Italy's industrial textile revolution.
By the postwar era, Albini was producing high-quality cotton shirtings that gained recognition among leading European tailors and fashion houses. Continuous innovation and investment in technology helped the company establish full vertical integration – from fiber selection to finished fabric – ensuring consistent excellence.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Albini Group expanded through strategic acquisitions of prestigious British heritage brands, including Thomas Mason (founded 1796) and David & John Anderson (founded 1822), integrating their historic archives and design expertise into its Italian manufacturing base.
Today, under the leadership of Fabrizio, Andrea, and Stefano Albini, the fifth generation of the family, the company operates with a focus on sustainability, traceability, and innovation. Its "Albini Next" project develops future-facing fabrics with natural performance, recycled fibers, and eco-friendly dyeing methods.
Albini Group remains the global leader in luxury shirting fabrics – a symbol of Italian precision, English heritage, and forward-looking textile craftsmanship.
Why We Love Albini
Albini is on the higher end of our shirting fabric makers. Of note, they make one of the highest quality poplins you can find – it's a cotton cloth but it feels closer to silk. Our master fitters recommend Albini for the man who wants both luxury and comfort, and doesn't mind a higher price point to get it.
