Mill History
Lanificio Egidio Ferla was established in the late 19th century in Italy's famous textile district of Biella. From its beginnings, the mill focused on creating fabrics that blend luxury fiber and craftsmanship, rather than pursuing large-scale industrial output.
Situated in the village of Polto, the Ferla mill remains small in size but strong in identity, led by Paolo Ferla and a core team of skilled weavers and finishers. A standout characteristic of Ferla's work is its use of baby alpaca, a rare and soft fiber which only represents about 1.5% of global alpaca production and is woven into fabrics unique to the Ferla name.
Over the years, Ferla has maintained its commitment to natural fibers, texture-rich weaves (bouclés, slubs, and textured surfaces), and a wardrobe aesthetic that appeals to both classic tailoring and modern luxury fashion.
Today, Lanificio Egidio Ferla stands as a symbol of Biella's artisan textile legacy – small in scale, large in character – delivering fabrics that offer subtle but distinct differences for tailors, brands, and clients seeking refined, uncommon cloth.
Why We Love Ferla
Ferla carries excellent sports jacket cloths, primarily linens and linen mixes – it's a smaller, more curated selection of lightweight Italian fabrics. Our fitters themselves wear Shepherd's jackets made with Ferla fabrics and speak highly of their incredible quality. It's a middle-of-the-road price point, while still giving the buyer a true lightweight Italian sport coat.
