Mill History

Founded in 1896 in Huddersfield by Henry Percy and Frederick Herbert Dugdale, Dugdale Bros & Co began in the heart of England's worsted wool industry. Over decades the company built a reputation for designing and supplying fine fabrics to tailors and cloth merchants across Europe and beyond.

The firm emphasizes an integrated local supply chain: spinning, weaving, and finishing are carried out within roughly ten miles of its Huddersfield HQ – preserving regional craft, heritage, and quality.

Today Dugdale continues to balance heritage and innovation: for example, launching an Ecology range made from UK-sheep wool, scoured and processed locally to high environmental standards. Though many cloth merchants and mills have been consolidated or closed, Dugdale remains one of the few truly independent cloth houses rooted in the original textile town of Huddersfield.

In the world of luxury tailoring and fine textiles, Dugdale Brothers & Co stands as a symbol of British cloth-making tradition, combining craftsmanship, local excellence, and modern relevance in its fabric offerings.

Why We Love Dugdale Brothers

Dugdale is another very old English mill that does all their own finishing – they take pride in knowing that their finishings are extremely refined for English cloths and have a very nice hand to them. English mills usually tend towards traditional and conservative; not colorful, not very breathable – but Dugdale expertly combines that traditional English heritage with the lightness and breathability that a modern consumer is likely looking for in suiting fabrics.
