Mill History

Loro Piana was officially founded in 1924 by Pietro Loro Piana in Quarona, Italy, though the family's involvement in wool trading began more than a century earlier. Positioned in the heart of Piedmont's textile region, the mill grew from a local fabric producer into one of the most prestigious names in the global luxury textile industry.

In the late 20th century, under Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana, the company became internationally renowned for its technical mastery and ability to work with some of the world's rarest fibers. Their dedication to sourcing the finest raw materials – such as vicuña from the Andes, cashmere from Mongolia, and merino wool from New Zealand – helped redefine modern elegance in luxury fabrics.

Acquired by LVMH Group in 2013, Loro Piana continues to combine Italian craftsmanship with innovation, focusing on fabric refinement, responsible sourcing, and timeless design. The mill remains a benchmark for quiet, uncompromising luxury in suiting fabrics.

Why We Love Loro Piana

Loro Piana is one of our highest and most luxurious mills. They make everything from beautiful suits to sharp sports jackets. They have a limited edition run that comes out every spring, summer, fall, and winter with a unique palette you don't see from other mills. It's exclusive – when it's gone, it's gone, ensuring your Shepherd's piece made to your measurements and taste is fully one-of-a-kind.

We particularly love their Storm System line of technical outerwear. It's 100% wool, but it wears and feels like a nylon rain jacket – the water resistance is unmatched. This innovative fabric is used in our Signature Loro Piana Waterproof Field Jacket, available online and ready to be made to fit you perfectly.

Loro Piana is for the discerning guy who knows his garment is at a higher price point, but that he's going to love the color palette, the way it feels, and the way it wears.
